Pour vous, mon amis
A few conversations lately with fellow fantasy writers have made me realize how frustrating world-building can sometimes be for authors who don’t have the advantage of a J.D. Legalese is hard to unpack anyway, since so much of it is Latin or Old English and very little of it is intuitive. Beyond that, it’s simply hard to know what you don’t know.
I had the idea to lay out some principles of the law, as basic as they are vital, as an aid and reference for my fellow writers None of this is intended as legal advice; the tone will be informal, the jargon minimal, my purpose, to help you get a sense what the skeleton of a legal system looks like so that you can frame your own society with a little more information at hand. I hope it proves useful.
